My first time there and I loved it. I enjoyed the sausages and other food at sausage buffet. The beer menu was good as well. I will definitely go there again.

When I found Schmidt's Restaurant Und Sausage Haus in the Historic German Village of Columbus, Ohio, I had to call in and see what this was all about. They have a wonderful German food and service. They have the huge beer mugs for those of us that need more than a 12 ounce pour. The buffet is always and option and plentiful. Each time I visit Columbus, I go at least twice. Once for the buffet and once for a menu item which is typically a sandwich. The desserts are to die for. The puff pastry is delicious and their cakes taste homemade. There is at times live German music and I enjoy sitting at the bar the best.

Visited the food truck, was my first time & the food was awesome. The mint cream puff was amazing. Will have to get again when back in town!

Here's all you need to know: there's a sausage buffet. Need I say more?Schmidt's Sausage House takes you right to Bavaria with house-made sausages, potato salad, schnitzels, and of course good beer. And then there's the jumbo cream puffs -- emphasis on jumbo -- to finish off your meal. Along with the food, a welcoming atmosphere and a quirky oom-pah duo make for a wonderful time.

I have been a loyal customer at Schmidt's for almost 50 years. The food is not quite the same without Opal in the kitchen but her receipes still are used for many items. I love the warm potato salad and while bratwurst is my personal favorite , please be sure to have a Bahama. I dont think they are as spicy as they used to be but wow are they special. Cream Puff .... Need i say more? Nothing even similar anywhere else. I do miss the original apple and peach strudel s. That sugar cookie crust after being in the salamander to steam was a bit of heaven. Thanks

One of my favorite restaurants. Genuine German food. They have a buffet at lunchtime. Prices aren’t too bad.

Can't begin to explain how wonderful an experience this place has always been. A+ staff, and the food is hearty and makes you feel like home. I'm not a big fan of fried food, but if you are looking for a cheat treat too the pretzels with dipping sauce are out of this world. Just make sure you don't go too late in the evening the restaurant could stand to be a little larger, but with the space constraints of German Village it's large enough. At least if you have to wait there are some nearby shops to checkout. Highly recommend this place!!

Awesome atmosphere. A great polka duo provided music in the restaurant. You HAVE to try the pretzel bites with beer cheese. They also have a buffet available. Food was awesome and ive even taken my family here when they visited me and they were obsessed. Known also for their beautiful giant cream puffs. You can also go across the street and buy handmade fudge.

The food and ambience were good. Loved the historical details. My only drawback was the waitstaff. I think our waitress must have been having an off-day as she checked on us the absolute minimum number of times and then brought the check before we ordered dessert. Needless to say that the check was brought promptly again when she brought our desserts. No refills offered and a "hurry up, eat, and leave" feeling. I did not get this impression from other staff. So, five stars.

Awesome experience! The wait for a table was made better by the use of a cell phone feature that let's you see how many tables are still ahead of you, so you can visit local shops while you wait without worry of missing your turn. The service was excellent, as well as the food! We had the Reuben, Ham & Cheese, and potato cakes. Delish! The cream puff is maybe a little over-hyped, or maybe just not my kind of dessert. Sort of like a whipped custard in a cold croissant. Overall great though, and would love to go back and try the buffet!

You can't go wrong getting Schmidt's! If you're unsure of what you want, they have a buffet stocked with lots of goodies from their menu and the cream puffs are to die for! Good prices, high quality food. All around a great experience if you love some good German food!!

Dinner and beer was very good. Had the buffet (4 different sausages, kraut, red cabbage, German potato salad, mac & cheese, mashed red skins potatoes, chicken, bean soup w/ham, green beans, corned beef w/cabbage, small salad bar) $15.99 (dinners were $13.00) and shared a huge cream puff ($3.75 w/buffet, $6.00 otherwise). We (2 people) arrived at 2:30 on Saturday and waited 15-20 minutes, but worth it. There are 2 gift shops across the street

Schmidt’s is an amazing German restaurant. My husband and father-in-law eat traditionalGerman food regularly, and Schmidt’s got their stamps of approval. Every time we are in Columbus, we have to make time to stop here. It is worth the wait, and I wish we lived closer!

If you love German food then this is the place to eat. Set into the German Village among the brick roads makes it so quaint. The atmosphere here is great. The waiting room can get a little tight because they are always busy but well worth the wait. They have a buffet or you can order off the menu. I recommend this place.

Atmosphere is great and if you're a buffet-lover, you'll love the food. My favorite menu item is the cream puff, it's the best in town! My 3-star review is because I would like to see more healthy options on the buffet as well as a rule that does not allow children to use the buffet unattended due to spread of germs.

Such a great restaurant. Stopped while passing through on vacation. We had about a 30 minute wait, but it was worth it. Fantastic buffet and the cream puffs for dessert were the best and LARGEST I have ever eaten.

Sausage Heaven! One of my most favorite places to go in the world! Walk in and you are overcome with the smell of sizzling sausage in an entertaining, lively environment. Happy servers, oompah music, authentic decor and delicious food! The Autobahn All-You-Can-Eat Buffet, at $15.99, is unbeatable, loaded with a succulent assortment of tender sausages (with a perfect snap) and German fixings! Wash it down with a couple of Large German draft beers! Don't forget the cream puffs!!

We come here whenever we're in Columbus. Great atmosphere and good old German fare including lots of cabbage, potatoes and sausage. And German beer! Prices and service are good. We often go for the buffet but the menu is extensive and good. Don't skip the homemade cream puff or German chocolate cake for dessert. Can be pretty crowded but we don't care.

I LOVED the energy of the space and place! Dinner was awesome! Service was prompt but not rushed. Food was incredible. I wish I had taken pics. Don't neglect to take time to shop down the street at both the fudge shop across the street and also the artisan's gallery two blocks down. This is an awesome area of the city!Enjoy!

While visiting Columbus, OH on business, I did a search for places showcased on Diners, Drive-In’s and Dives. Schmidt’s Sausage Haus was on the the list. I’ve never had German food before I thought I’d check it out. My colleague and I were seated and checked out the menu and I was given an option to order from the menu or have the all you can eat Sausage bar... um... all you can eat sausage!!! My colleague said his meal was good, but I passed it up for all you can eat sausage. I can’t remember how many types of sausages they had but I tried everyone of them at least 3 times. They had other stuff on the sausage bar, like meatloaf and some German style rice. I was very pleased with my choice and would do it all over again if given the option.

We were recommended this place by an academic friend, and as we got there for a Saturday evening meal, it was absolutely packed with a 30 m waiting queue. However, we were lucky to find a spot for two at the bar and that made all the difference. Bar tenders were friendly and fun to chat with, who encouraged us to go for their signature sausage platters. Five stars! They also stock the Bavarian Schneider Weisse wheat beer, which brought back good memories of my visits to Munich. A good choice in a historic part of Columbus, OH.

There’s not much deviation between German cuisines, but what sets this restaurant apart is the service and atmosphere. This is the first restaurant I’ve been to in Columbus where crowds of people are waiting outside for it to open. The buffet is a unique option, and gives you the chance to taste a variety of traditional German dishes

Five stars doesn't do The Eagle justice. My girlfriend and I have been craving some good Southern Fried Chicken, and we finally found it here. We ordered a little bit of everything here. A healthy order of chicken, a side of biscuits, some spoon bread, French fries, and Mac and cheese. And the chicken was the star of the show!

Went there while in my one-week visit to Columbus. This restaurant is the one to visit while in town! Beautiful building and very well lit and decorated on the outside. Excellent ambience inside the restaurant with live music that was fun for many lf the tables. Service was excellent too: Our waitress was very attentive, kept filling our water cups and was fast and pleasant. The food came out fast and was incredible. I had the sausage taster! They also had a buffet but we opted not. Prices very reasonable too!

It's a fun atmosphere and the waitress was friendly and attentive. The food was just okay but plentiful. My son really enjoyed the food, but I thought the Bahama Mama was just a large, slightly spicy hot dog.

Found ourselves downtown after visiting the Home and Flower show, and not wanting to eat junk, decided to stop in at Schmidt's restaurant in German Village. Although it was Sunday afternoon, which is a popular time, my wife and I were seated in less than 5 minutes and enjoyed sampling all the choices in their Sunday buffet. Food was excellent and the service exceptional. Many of the servers have worked there a long time and really know how to treat good customers well. They definitely remember who are the good tippers. It is a great place to take families. Will definitely come back.

Wife and I stopped here on our way back home from the James Center. Wife recommended this place when she lived in Columbus. I thought it was very good and I haven't had REAL German food since I was in Munich Germany at Oktoberfest. Service was good as well. I had their signature dish the Bahama Mama and it was delicious. As always remember that when you are in the Dayton dump keep your expectations very low and you won't be disappointed.

Stopped here with some friends as we were traveling through Columbus. We heard some great things about Schmidt's so we thought we should try it out. We all thought it was good but not quite as fabulous as the expectations we had based on the hype. We did all enjoy our meal but would not go out of our way to come back. Especially with the hour wait time we experienced. I had the buffet. It is the best bang for the buck and you can sample all of the sausages. The deserts were pretty good. The restaurant is in a nice area and we spent most of our hour wait walking around the historic homes and neighborhood that surround the restraunt. If you found my review informative or helpful please click the like button below 👍

We had a party of 7 and only waited a few minutes on a Friday around 6ish. We found parking easily on the street adjacent. We all enjoyed the atmosphere, the service was great as well. Most of us had German style beers, they were amazing. Pretty large selection.I suggested this place because i love sauerkraut. This place did not disappoint. We also had a peanut butter cream puff type of dessert that 4 of us had to share because of size. Well definitely be going back.

I had the Bahama Mama and the German potato salad. It was really good. The waitress was friendly, all in all a good experience. They also serve Bud Light for those domestic beer lovers. We got four different cream puffs to go. They were okay but a little pricey at 6.50 and 7.00 apiece.

The best cream puffs anywhere. Rich cream and fluffy pastry. My family loves them. Wish I could eat them. But this is a mandatory stop whenever I'm in Columbus. It always has a ridiculous line. You always must plan to wait if you want to eat there. But the people are friendly who work there. And if you're just grabbing cream puffs on the go, it's not too bad.

Waiting system was the pits. You should wait the waiting area until all of your members in groups come to the restaurant. They will not give a table for you. The rest of them is fine.

Have been several times over many years. This was my first time with a bus tour. Three large tour buses packed the upstairs buffet. I've always enjoyed their food. However, I heard the chairlift had a problem with so many who had difficulty negotiating the stairs. Something Schmidt's needs to address with a tour carrying a very large group of seniors. Hopefully some will return to enjoy the food and atmosphere in smaller groups.

Food is awesome and the service is amazingly nice. This place was a must-eat on my road-trip planner. But my friend and I had a long drive in the snow and arrived Columbus around 9:20pm—the restaurant is closing at 10. We were a bit shy to go in around 9:30—thinking maybe just getting their famous puffs and leave. The waitress welcomed us so warmly so we asked if we could get some dinner. *BOOM* We got a delicious dinner on the road. And they got the best puffs I ever had!
